The film is a body-swapping story of two high school students, Mitsuha, a female high school student living in a small town in Itomori, and Taki, a male high school student in the bustling capital of Tokyo. Mitsuha is always bored with her boring life and dreams of becoming a handsome guy living in the capital. Meanwhile, Taki sees himself every night in the form of a country girl. Their dreams come true when a thousand-year comet appears on Earth and they switch bodies every other day.
