Part two begins eight hours after the escape, focusing on each of the escapees. The prisoners split up, fleeing and hiding across the country while the authorities are hot on their heels, hunting them for various reasons. Brad Bellick, the warden of the prison, is fired and joins the hunt for a large reward. Several of the escapees band together to find a large sum of money hidden long ago by another inmate. Alexander Mahone, a federal agent assigned to track down and capture the eight escapees, is discovered to be working for The Company, which wants the eight prisoners dead.
