Set in 1994, the film takes place 300 years after Bumblebee appeared. At this time, Michael Bay was still not in charge and Optimus Prime, the courageous leader of the Autobots, was still unfamiliar with Earth.  Here, Optimus met Optimus Primal and the Maximals branch - a new group of robots that appeared and had the ability to transform themselves into animals instead of cars like before.
