Following the events of the third part Despicable Me 3 (2017), Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell) has now reformed and limited his participation in illegal activities. In addition to his wife Lucy Wilde and adopted daughters Margo, Edith, Agnes, Gru's family now welcomes a new member, the little boy Gru Junior - his first son. However, the safety of Gru's family is quickly threatened when his old enemy Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Will Ferrell) escapes from prison, planning to take revenge and pay off his old debt with Gru. Accompanying Maxime is his lover Valentina. Therefore, Gru is forced to stand up and face his enemy to protect his family and the Minions.
